Why are You in Manchester?

Walking back from a meeting I had arranged (delightful, with Norm), I stopped in at a convenience shop along the way and spoke some words. The words proved I was not a local in Manchester, and the (very attractive) girl behind the counter asked, "Are you on holiday?", to which I responded "Yes, I am on vacation".
She then said, "So what are you doing in Manchester?"
I think the above is self-explanatory, but I am not sure I could have explained it to her.
