Can tennis reporters (a kind word) put the emphasis on the right syllable in Kuznetsova and not in Scharapova? Did Scharapova agree to have her name changed?
I actually did hear Bud Collins talking about that once. He said all these ladies have agents who are supposed to provide the media with proper pronunciation for their clients. The problem that Bud mentioned is they change it - which throws off the media. He specifically mentioned Sharapova in this discussion. So, it might not be the media's fault at all if they seem to be inconsistent.
Thanks, Tracey. That makes a lot of sense. And I can imagine that Scharapova might have simply given up on the Russian pronunciation after years of living in Florida and having the emphasis placed on the wrong syllable.
