Creepy Collectivism
Yup - that was my problem with the actual text of the Great Windbag's speech to the students.Republicans and self-identified conservatives do not necessarily have a problem with this sort of rhetoric, or with the notion of the president as national dad. But individualists should.
One hopeful thing about Obama's speech is something that was not there: There was not a single explicit reference to drugs.
Go read the whole thing, as the GW, like his predecessor GW, was a puffer in his youth.
h/t Instapundit, who also supplies this perspective, which is exactly what I expected (the appropriate response is ridicule):
I asked the Insta-Daughter how it went off in her class and she responded, “My class was laughing . . . which really upset Mrs. _____, because she thought it was a great speech.”
I do feel sorry for the teachers, who, sincerely or not, surely had to try to take this ludicrous exercise seriously.
