An Observation of Worth - Folk vs Rock
Chris Dillow has a nice analysis of rock stardom in a post today. It contains this amusing and very true observation:Put it this way. If Guns N' Roses performed in front of two men in a pub, they'd look ridiculous. If Kate Rusby or the McGarrigle sisters or the sublime being (ed. note. Jolie Holland) did so, it would be a magical experience.
I have experienced some of those "two men in a pub" shows, and they have many times been wonderful. The very few rock shows I have seen left a lot to be desired, even with large enthusiastic crowds (perhaps largely because of the crowds).
