Mel Gibson sadly reveals himself

Many wondered about whether 'The Passion' contained the germination of antiSemitic seeds.
Heck - I loved 'The Lethal Weapon' series, and even the rather idiotic 'Road Warior' and 'Braveheart' (OK maybe I did not love Braveheart).
Somehow, and sadly, this news is no surprise.
I wondered if he might go into deny mode.
Seems instead he went into "I was helpless" mode.
I do not buy it. But at least he appears to recant.

Sad affair not just for his silly comments but for his falling off the wagon (again.) Also, what is it about antipodeans and throwing phones? :P

I thank George Miller for the Mad Max movies (of which Road Warrior was last and worst.) Didn't see "The Passion" but the controversy around it succeeded in selling extra tickets I am sure.

Love the look and premise of his next movie "Apocalypto" and am tempted to see it.

Sad? No - excellent as he has exposed himself. Not just as a drunk but as a profound anti-Semite.
No doubt the apologetics are starting soon.
And I will have a conflict. I love the actor.

I'm still going to see Apocalypto without feeling too conflicted.

The aussie press is already talking up the tough times he's going through.

We already knew he was an alcoholic. And yes, for that, he deserves compassion (but not indulgence), particularly if he is trying to dry out. But it wasn't the drink that made him into a racist. It simply allowed him to speak what he believes to be the truth without self-editing.
I have no compassion there. It's an entirely different matter. I have no conflict. I won't see any more of his movies. And I do not see how the "tough times" he is going through in any way mitigate his comments.
If you're interested, I've posted about this on my blog.
