Back to the Zoo

One bit of brilliance at the Cologne Zoo is the placement of the meerkats so close to the entrance. It is impossible not to be utterly charmed by these creatures, especially with them prepetually in a sort of lookout mode.

OK maybe not perpetually. It is a bit difficult to parse this picture, but it features two babies fighting playfully, and leaving it to the adults to stand on guard.

There is a great series on Animal Planet called Meerkat Manor which follows the lives of several troops of Meerkats in South Africa. Well worth a watch.

I have seen it occasionally here on TV Ontario - to be honest TV Meerkats run out of fascination for me after a while; the real ones are great. My fondest memories of them in many ways are when I often took the Heathrow Express to Paddington and the short trip offered a TV screen with a few moments of news and then a lot of Meerkat - sweet. Did not notice them on the last trip.

uhhhhh .... so were those "real" meerkats on the TV screen on the heathrow express, or "TV" meerkats?

The question is too subtle for me.
