Help!!!!!!!!!
OK Scharapova is playing Pironkova tonight.ESPN's yappers are talking about Pi-RON-ko-va (what I consider standard Slavic pronunciation) and Schar-a-PO-va, not remotely standard Slavic. The latter might be Florida Slavic but could someone please finally tell me?!
During the Rogers Cup, I sat through a bit of one Scharapova match and the chair umpire vacillated, starting with the Florida pronunciation, switching in the middle to the Slavic classic, and then back at the end to Florida. Were there consultants guiding the chair umpire?
Could someone please finally explain this to me with other than speculation?
