Silly Little Country

June 6 in France

As part of my day I bought 'Le Figaro', and read 'Le Parisien' while watching some tennis in a bar. I tried to read every line of each newspaper and found no hint that there was any sort of anniversary today. Even worse, I also bought and pored over the 'International Herald Tribune'.
Now I will confess that it did not cross my mind that today was D-Day until after I had done much of that reading so some rigour may have been lacking in my search.
And, also, each paper contained some encouraging news, particularly Segolene Royal's testing of the waters with some sensible views. We shall see.
Still, I remain surprised. Did I miss something?
