Pavarotti in the Park

I awoke this morning to the radio news announcing that Luciano Pavarotti had died.

I recalled a wonderful concert in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco in the 1970s (yes, he was doing it back then!), with Pavarotti as one of the two key performers, doing what he did so magnificently, popularizing great opera. I have rarely seen the greats in any area, but I still recall that day, implausibly (by San Francisco summer standards) sunny, and utterly delightful.

I thank him for all the pleasure he added to my life.
