Toronto a Monty Python Skit?
The man who was elected to hold tax increases in Toronto to the cost of living increase and has broken that promise with every single one of his many budgets sure finds
some interesting things to do with the money he extracts from us property owners.
The Canadian Arab Federation may be too biased for the federal government -- which moved to cut off funding after CAF president Khaled Mouammar called the Immigration Minister a “professional whore” for supporting Israel -- but it can still count on the City of Toronto, which is ponying up $25,000 in support.
...
The main criteria for grants, it seems, is an ability to learn and regurgitate an inscrutable pseudo-script, which assembles legitimate words in apparent sentences, which in turn purport to contain a legitimate message but might as well be written in a regional variation of ancient Sanscrit.
Here, for example, is the description of activities carried out by the Stop Community Food Centre (whose name alone doesn’t make sense. They want to stop community food? Why? And just what is community food -- do they sell it at Loblaws?)
The Stop Community Food Centre
This civic engagement and community capacity building project focuses on advocacy skills of the community around issues of access to services, particularly as it relates to poverty and food security. The establishment of a peer advocacy office will provide peer advocates an opportunity to provide advocacy services to their community and build linkages and networks for collective action.
$5,000.00
You can tell from this that “advocacy” sells well around City Hall. If you advocate something, you’re pretty much in. Advocacy means you support a position or organization and argue on its behalf. So Toronto gives money to organizations that support their own activites {SIC: perhaps the National Post could ask the city for a proofreading grant :-) ] and argue in their own support. What do they argue for? Why, themselves of course. And to whom do they argue: well, to people who can do them some good, like the people at City Hall who hand out money. So Toronto pays organizations to hire people to turn up at City Hall to ask it for more money, so it can afford to come back again later and ask for more money again.
This is the sort of thing that undermines the Millerbabble that perpetually asks some other level of government to spare him the need to actually say 'No' to one of his cronies.

Canada a Monty Python skit?
George Jonas
explains the latest "human rights" foolishness. Unreasonable accomodation, I would judge it.
Hall's commissars aren't demanding access to Judge Marocco's court as advocates for shariah. No, they're calling themselves experts on Canada's evolving law. They're not urging the courts to accommodate veiled Muslim witnesses, they're stating as their expert opinion that, as a matter of law, accommodating such witnesses is the duty of Canadian courts. In other words, they're trying to parlay their ideology of Advanced Matriarchal and Transsexual Multiculturalism into expertise on Canadian law. That's a fraudulent pitch, made under false pretenses -- at least, that's what I'd say if the judge asked me.
...
People should certainly be able to decide what they are in their own minds. By all means, please, be my guest, be whatever you like -- men, women, bullfrogs, butter knives. It is (or used to be) a free country. My problem is with people who want to decide what they are in my mind. The way liberty works, they can decide what they are for themselves, and I'll decide what they are for me. Then we can live happily ever after, including Barbara Hall, who may be a step closer to becoming Ontario's Big Nanny when Judge Marocco decides her status on Friday, Mar. 13, or Ontario's Big Ninny, if the judge prefers the Enlightenment to the Middle Ages.

Talk about a Sad Country, not just Silly
This is utterly sorry. Count on the CBC.
It contains narcissism of the sort that the most insecure narcissists have.
Beginning Monday, January 5, CBC Radio 2 invites Canadians to help select the top “49 songs from north of the 49th parallel” that would best define our country to the incoming U.S. President Barack Obama.
His playlist could definitely benefit from some Canadian content, especially given the depth of our musical offerings – spanning a wide variety of genres and representing our culture from coast to coast.
It also has a happy dose of major windbaggery:
“One of the best way [sic] to know Canada is through the depth and breadth of our artistic expression,” says Denise Donlon, Executive Director, CBC Radio. “We're excited about the new President and we want him to be excited about us, so we're asking our audience to help compile the list of our most definitive Canadian songs!”
I shake my head in dismay. What a lofty goal - getting some songs on Obama's iPod!
Radio 2 used to feature a lot of good programming. Now they have a small amount of good programming surrounded by a clown show.
As an aside, if you follow the links, and check out the comments, we are off to a very bad start. The comments seem more a way to show off than to make serious suggestions.

Mayor Miller to the Federal Government
He should act quickly! Don't let those
Czechs into
perfect gun-range-free Toronto!
Trap shooter David Kostelecký has followed on from the example set by air rifle champion Kateřina Emmons to win the Czech Republic a second gold medal at the Beijing Olympics. Mr Kostelecký hit all 25 targets in the final round on Sunday finishing with a final score of 146. The Czech shooter was the one competitor to turn in a perfect final round, despite facing heavy competition in the early rounds. The event took place amidst heavy downpours in Beijing. After the competition, an ecstatic Mr Kostelecký noted that he believed that the rain had brought him good fortune.
On a side note it was refreshing to see our sports minister
Helena Guergis this morning on CBC television announce how much she was looking forward to seeing shooting events, having done some shooting of her own. No doubt Miller will have to get council to bar her from the city.
